I am looking forward to trying the rest of them because I really like the streaky look they give. It's like the streaks you get when you apply coloured frit to a bead using a clear gather to transport and spread it except that the end result is easier to control and more predictably coloured. There's a time and place for both and I am glad to have this option in orange :)</p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-s5eqsuXd-xY/YOkdcgm02DI/AAAAAAAAH-U/sBR8d7r0bEgpCyAavuyyW0COUhnx5K8dwCNcBGAsYHQ/s367/solarstorm_plain.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="342" data-original-width="367" height="186" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-s5eqsuXd-xY/YOkdcgm02DI/AAAAAAAAH-U/sBR8d7r0bEgpCyAavuyyW0COUhnx5K8dwCNcBGAsYHQ/w200-h186/solarstorm_plain.jpg" width="200" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div>With all of the streamer colours, I've found that it's important to use a contrasting opaque colour underneath them as the bead 'core' so that they have something to sparkle against. Otherwise, the lighter streamers get really lost against the bead hole.<p></p><p>Here are some fun beads that I made with Solar Storm:</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-BV_GmxoqONE/YOkd6Mh12gI/AAAAAAAAH-c/dVidQh_JGTctCMZWDgEabmJew135uzGZQCNcBGAsYHQ/s1000/202106-051b.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1000" data-original-width="1000" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-BV_GmxoqONE/YOkd6Mh12gI/AAAAAAAAH-c/dVidQh_JGTctCMZWDgEabmJew135uzGZQCNcBGAsYHQ/s320/202106-051b.jpg" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jt3VHeOK8A4/YOkeDpBSu3I/AAAAAAAAH-g/wJdEOsM6IEgHE74ct8eJUVNUSV2I_Iu-QCNcBGAsYHQ/s1000/202106-011b.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1000" data-original-width="1000" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jt3VHeOK8A4/YOkeDpBSu3I/AAAAAAAAH-g/wJdEOsM6IEgHE74ct8eJUVNUSV2I_Iu-QCNcBGAsYHQ/s320/202106-011b.jpg" /></a></div><br /><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p>Melanie Grahamhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16119369707291699057noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2378147167962396513.post-38353046999514086942021-07-10T10:00:00.060-07:002021-07-10T10:00:00.228-07:00First Look :: Jacaranda<div class="separator"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ZDGbEv9ee8Q/YOkZCTLRyhI/AAAAAAAAH-I/12uHeVf62O8Q7fNOVZxqGEG9yuuz9QAxwCPcBGAYYCw/s427/jacaranda_plain.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="427" data-original-width="394" height="200" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ZDGbEv9ee8Q/YOkZCTLRyhI/AAAAAAAAH-I/12uHeVf62O8Q7fNOVZxqGEG9yuuz9QAxwCPcBGAYYCw/w184-h200/jacaranda_plain.jpg" width="184" /></a></div><br /><p><a href="https://www.creationismessy.com/color.aspx?id=521">CiM Jacaranda</a> (CiM636) is a very pretty transparent lavender. I think CiM Jacaranda is exactly the same colour as Crocus, but because it is more transparent it just seems brighter. I added some to the order I already placed after I made these beads because I really enjoyed using this colour. It's like nothing else I've ever tried, and everything I made with it so far is pretty ugly because I just don't have it figured out yet. The only thing a girl can do in this situation is buy a full pound of it and really buckle down to figure it out, so I just messaged Nortel to ask them to add a pound of Scotch Broom to my order.</p><p>OK, so why, if everything I've made with it so far is icky, have I just ordered a pound of Scotch Broom? Because I love the colour so much in the rod and in the plain spacers I made that I really need to figure it out. It's completely unique and crazy beautiful.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3_4XOKRc_mQ/YNgFYJr82lI/AAAAAAAAH9U/RX6YHOJ9xi8L58WjWcFuM64xrL_y0-XawCNcBGAsYHQ/s676/ScotchBroom_Spacers.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="500" data-original-width="676" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3_4XOKRc_mQ/YNgFYJr82lI/AAAAAAAAH9U/RX6YHOJ9xi8L58WjWcFuM64xrL_y0-XawCNcBGAsYHQ/s320/ScotchBroom_Spacers.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><p>This is Scotch Broom in spacers. It seems like it is slow to strike back to opalescence, so these beads just look transparent. What a gorgeous, warm colour!</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-RIpt88V4psI/YNgJMitm_hI/AAAAAAAAH9c/uwrPGGTAtiQGcxK-IihmWcmL3t7Zvbn8QCNcBGAsYHQ/s1600/ScotchBroom_silver.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="956" data-original-width="1600" height="191" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-RIpt88V4psI/YNgJMitm_hI/AAAAAAAAH9c/uwrPGGTAtiQGcxK-IihmWcmL3t7Zvbn8QCNcBGAsYHQ/w320-h191/ScotchBroom_silver.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><p>These little beads are Scotch Broom with silver leaf. The bead on the right is encased with Effetre 006 Clear.</p><p>The only surviving things I have made with this colour are truly ugly, and out of those, this is the least embarrassing one that made it past the water jar, so this is the one I'll put here:</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-fenYauU0Jg4/YNgOy1cPLsI/AAAAAAAAH9k/_My9kZcFhQ8JdfIvX6BDToVdNiww2rNQgCNcBGAsYHQ/s1544/scotchbroom_uglyfocal.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1544" data-original-width="1544" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-fenYauU0Jg4/YNgOy1cPLsI/AAAAAAAAH9k/_My9kZcFhQ8JdfIvX6BDToVdNiww2rNQgCNcBGAsYHQ/s320/scotchbroom_uglyfocal.jpg" /></a></div><div><br /></div>This bead has Kniphofia in the core, encased with Scotch Broom. I made an incorrect assumption when I started using this colour that it would end up more opaque like the rod, and that was not the case. I got more opacification of it in this bead than in the little spacers, so it seems like working it longer can help with that if opacity is what you're after.<div><br /></div><div>No one will ever know what possessed me to put blue and aqua flowers on top of this colour, and I did not expect the flower petal colours to let so much orange through. The flower effectively looks brown. </div><div><br /></div><div>I will repost about this colour when I've been able to give it a better workout. My results here definitely don't seem reflective of its potential.</div>Melanie Grahamhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16119369707291699057noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2378147167962396513.post-902497982713554632021-06-26T16:33:00.004-07:002021-06-27T23:05:26.193-07:00First Look :: Kniphofia<p><a href="https://www.creationismessy.com/color.aspx?id=522" target="_blank">Kniphofia</a> from Creation is Messy (CiM225) is a medium orange transparent that is a bit slower to strike than other transparent oranges, but apart from that and the fact that it does not seem to opacify the way Clockwork does, it's very similar to Clockwork. It seems not so slow to strike as Goldfish was last year so it doesn't have quite as much range as that colour did. It is a gorgeous colour, though, and I appreciate both the flexibility of hue and how this colour seems to stay more transparent when fully struck.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-kfXOwDswW5s/YNe2XGwOAFI/AAAAAAAAH9M/dJDpzRAnkQQ-_1OkoAY83mKOSiWi2cJbgCNcBGAsYHQ/s776/Kniphofia_Tubes.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="416" data-original-width="776" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-kfXOwDswW5s/YNe2XGwOAFI/AAAAAAAAH9M/dJDpzRAnkQQ-_1OkoAY83mKOSiWi2cJbgCNcBGAsYHQ/s320/Kniphofia_Tubes.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><p>It is very difficult to make two beads at the same time from a striking colour and have them come out the exact same colour. I made these two beads together and you can see how the one on the left struck a little deeper. In this case, I'm happy about it, because I think it might be fun to make a whole bunch of them to use in a necklace and it will be better if they aren't all identical anyway, but most of the time this is a frustrating problem. </p><p>The only ways I've found around it are:</p><p></p><ul style="text-align: left;"><li>to hang around in the flame (and out of it, intermittently) until both beads look fully struck like they can't possibly strike further, </li><li>to painstakingly restart the striking sequence in each bead after getting the initial gather on the mandrel but before starting to shape them and then being very careful to give both beads absolutely equal treatment.</li></ul>But both ways take a long time, and even then I'm wrong half the time because things look so different when they're hot. When I want matching pairs with striking colours, I generally make 4 or 5 pairs and then pick out the best matches out of all the beads to be paired together.<p></p><p>Here are some beads made with Kniphofia:</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-C_jixhCs0no/YNeVq6qx-bI/AAAAAAAAH88/xFf-BceNE_sSgJqSoIXX3pQS8gVNfWT6ACNcBGAsYHQ/s1000/202106-025a.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1000" data-original-width="1000" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-C_jixhCs0no/YNeVq6qx-bI/AAAAAAAAH88/xFf-BceNE_sSgJqSoIXX3pQS8gVNfWT6ACNcBGAsYHQ/w320-h320/202106-025a.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><p style="text-align: center;">I used Kniphofia in the stripes on the sides of these beads.</p><p style="text-align: center;"><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-567W_vCKJYU/YNeVLQiUwHI/AAAAAAAAH8g/Hb9cAnf6au4IfnQ2oNP4yEufCgPsYcCuACNcBGAsYHQ/s1000/202106-043a.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1000" data-original-width="1000" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-567W_vCKJYU/YNeVLQiUwHI/AAAAAAAAH8g/Hb9cAnf6au4IfnQ2oNP4yEufCgPsYcCuACNcBGAsYHQ/s320/202106-043a.jpg" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Here, Kniphofia is in the more orange of the orange stripes. They melt beautifully, with no bubbles or scumming. These glasses are really only different as regards their opacity, so I feel like it is makes sense to post about them together. In general, I typically prefer the misty colours to the milky ones because I enjoy the brightness of them, and this was true for me with Avalon as well.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-LRhNp181cWM/YMBHeH7DtAI/AAAAAAAAH7M/sgBzHjZe_T0nNBpO9J1DVtAticICGDbjACNcBGAsYHQ/s313/avalon_plain.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="313" data-original-width="300" height="200" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-LRhNp181cWM/YMBHeH7DtAI/AAAAAAAAH7M/sgBzHjZe_T0nNBpO9J1DVtAticICGDbjACNcBGAsYHQ/w192-h200/avalon_plain.jpg" width="192" /></a></div><div><br /></div>You can clearly see here the difference between the milky and misty versions of this colour. I'm not really sure which is which now, but you can rest assured that whichever of these colours you choose to buy, you're getting something pretty neat. The colour is a little warmer than what I typically get from CiM Cranberry or Effetre Rubino Oro, and a bit lighter in saturation than Cranberry (Rubino Oro varies from batch to batch, so it's hard to say something really definitive about it here). </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-otJkcPAJUCQ/WYlQnMFoYII/AAAAAAAAF3Q/Ebp4O9pasqswD0vtYwX-S_q8Zn-nOcRUwCLcBGAs/s1600/MediumTopaz-TestBeads.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" data-original-height="630" data-original-width="900" height="448" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-otJkcPAJUCQ/WYlQnMFoYII/AAAAAAAAF3Q/Ebp4O9pasqswD0vtYwX-S_q8Zn-nOcRUwCLcBGAs/s640/MediumTopaz-TestBeads.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Effetre Medium Topaz (EFF014) is the colour of amber or maple syrup. Some vendors call it Root Beer.<br />
<br />
This colour is part of a small family of topazes, which we can all appreciate because it is very nice to have a series of 3 or more tranparents that are all the same hue but at different saturation levels. We have to be more inventive to create this kind of graduated effect with other colours. I wish someone could do this with reds and oranges.<br />
<br />
Because all of the great colours have more than one name, this one is also sometimes called Root Beer, so if you're looking for Medium Topaz and can't find it, that could be part of your problem.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-HSUyvaU4pTU/WYlQlz16iFI/AAAAAAAAF3A/Y4rvhFpby0I9kuuVcp--3W3iA3gRIvJ2gCLcBGAs/s1600/MediumTopaz-Plain.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="281" data-original-width="384" height="146" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-HSUyvaU4pTU/WYlQlz16iFI/AAAAAAAAF3A/Y4rvhFpby0I9kuuVcp--3W3iA3gRIvJ2gCLcBGAs/s200/MediumTopaz-Plain.jpg" width="200" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Reducing Medium Topaz doesn't have any effect on it's colour.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-BTeAfvYUW0w/WhWliLXXzEI/AAAAAAAAGRM/BS6YBFlvv7gyFcyAfaNXvUAnIWVcvCV3gCLcBGAs/s1600/MediumTopaz-Comparison.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="509" data-original-width="1000" height="201" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-BTeAfvYUW0w/WhWliLXXzEI/AAAAAAAAGRM/BS6YBFlvv7gyFcyAfaNXvUAnIWVcvCV3gCLcBGAs/s400/MediumTopaz-Comparison.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
In the rightmost bead, you can see Medium Topaz sitting smack between it's two cousins, Light Topaz and Dark Topaz.<br />
<br />
Medium Topaz is a very vivid colour with reddish overtones, which is very appealing but maybe a little frustrating if what you really want is a medium brown colour. If you're facing this problem, consider choosing CiM Indian Summer or CiM Maple instead, since they are less red but about the same level of saturation. Medium Topaz is brighter and more saturated than Reichenbach Amber, brighter than CiM Indian Summer, and significantly redder and darker than the old Vetrofond Streaky Topaz.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-CQE3yhcDl5E/WYlQmVD0UsI/AAAAAAAAF3E/Rf_HFuwneEYUtjy73xFw3Rn1b0CXvAH4QCLcBGAs/s1600/MediumTopaz-Silver.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="522" data-original-width="1206" height="172" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-CQE3yhcDl5E/WYlQmVD0UsI/AAAAAAAAF3E/Rf_HFuwneEYUtjy73xFw3Rn1b0CXvAH4QCLcBGAs/s400/MediumTopaz-Silver.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
On top of Medium Topaz, silver spreads out and forms a brownish crust. When that crust is reduced and encased, it turns a bluish grey. Medium Topaz deadens silver. I encased silver foil in the rightmost bead, and usually I expect to see the silver glinting out at me with some intensity, whether the colour of it is changed or not. Medium Topaz seems to have eaten it.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-f6j3IyRQuQc/WYlQmznMxuI/AAAAAAAAF3M/ZvuMwAx9ySMokawjnyISn1KcfGgMI5C9wCLcBGAs/s1600/MediumTopaz-SilverGlass.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="499" data-original-width="1363" height="146" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-f6j3IyRQuQc/WYlQmznMxuI/AAAAAAAAF3M/ZvuMwAx9ySMokawjnyISn1KcfGgMI5C9wCLcBGAs/s400/MediumTopaz-SilverGlass.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Medium Topaz makes a very interesting base colour for reducing silver glass frit. I got interesting outlines around the fritty bits here, and I also got very nice colours in the frit. My TerraNova2 frit got some interesting colour in it, but everything is so dark in that bead that it seems like maybe the reaction between it and the Medium Topaz was too strong. I'll have to try this again and see what happens.<br />
<br />
In my frit stringer test, I certainly got a reaction but instead of the blues and greens that I get with colours like Yellow, Straw Yellow, Mojito, and others I instead got a lot of grey and pale yellow with the barest hints of blue. This combined with its behaviour with silver makes me think that the Topaz family's reaction profile is a lot like that of an Ivory. That sort of makes sense based on the little I know about glass colouring and I can't help remembering that Ivory is sort of amberish when it's hot.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-iYNDgEliDUQ/WYlQmUT29kI/AAAAAAAAF3I/fVf71O1UYE8TK4bpbGH4GUOqFWFiZBarACLcBGAs/s1600/MediumTopaz-Colours.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="421" data-original-width="1600" height="168" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-iYNDgEliDUQ/WYlQmUT29kI/AAAAAAAAF3I/fVf71O1UYE8TK4bpbGH4GUOqFWFiZBarACLcBGAs/s640/MediumTopaz-Colours.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Medium Topaz lightens up considerably when used on top of other colours.<br />
<br />
Copper Green, Opal Yellow, Ivory, and Peace all separated on top of Medium Topaz, but I didn't notice much in the way of reactions when the Medium Topaz was on top.<br />
<br />
Here are some beads that include Medium Topaz:<br />

<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Zzub-CGUpAc/XgxcCjtZ8TI/AAAAAAAAHVA/ug10iKyyy6EVi7OuYiAZcbSviozqxKtaQCNcBGAsYHQ/s1600/DarkEmerald-TestBeads.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="800" data-original-width="900" height="568" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Zzub-CGUpAc/XgxcCjtZ8TI/AAAAAAAAHVA/ug10iKyyy6EVi7OuYiAZcbSviozqxKtaQCNcBGAsYHQ/s640/DarkEmerald-TestBeads.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Effetre Dark Emerald is a vibrant, pure medium green transparent. It is relatively inert with other colours -- even with Ivory it has only a very slight brown line reaction. I was expecting it to be more reactive than it is, so I was pleasantly surprised.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-OdjfHLPxY_M/XgxcBtmCPUI/AAAAAAAAHUw/XGZjtKr7pBwCBCHBLkWmVp1NAQ-dtpxdgCNcBGAsYHQ/s1600/DarkEmerald-Plain.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="292" data-original-width="429" height="135" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-OdjfHLPxY_M/XgxcBtmCPUI/AAAAAAAAHUw/XGZjtKr7pBwCBCHBLkWmVp1NAQ-dtpxdgCNcBGAsYHQ/s200/DarkEmerald-Plain.jpg" width="200" /></a></div>
<br />
Here, you can see that reducing Dark Emerald makes no appreciable difference in itsappearance.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-I2xNCzwtOaE/XgxcB6Cd7QI/AAAAAAAAHU0/EdLXDFaVUdgNX9DAUdKmnMgs3FXQYr7agCNcBGAsYHQ/s1600/DarkEmerald-Silver.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="525" data-original-width="1036" height="162" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-I2xNCzwtOaE/XgxcB6Cd7QI/AAAAAAAAHU0/EdLXDFaVUdgNX9DAUdKmnMgs3FXQYr7agCNcBGAsYHQ/s320/DarkEmerald-Silver.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Dark Emerald does nothing with silver until you reduce and encase the silver - then you get faint bluish hints here and there that remind me of how silver interacts with the cobalt blues.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-zgSQVPxgB4Y/XgxcCCVFyGI/AAAAAAAAHU8/hawehMhlAXQWyfnMza1LFfdIM_iSqFOGQCNcBGAsYHQ/s1600/DarkEmerald-SilverGlass.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="507" data-original-width="770" height="210" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-zgSQVPxgB4Y/XgxcCCVFyGI/AAAAAAAAHU8/hawehMhlAXQWyfnMza1LFfdIM_iSqFOGQCNcBGAsYHQ/s320/DarkEmerald-SilverGlass.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Dark Emerald seems to make a nice base for both reducing and striking silver glass.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-IM9i1_LYh4s/XgxcCDJpzHI/AAAAAAAAHU4/Wevq8bKtr5cJme7NIq5KOTYXILLJeCjpQCNcBGAsYHQ/s1600/DarkEmerald-Colours.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="488" data-original-width="1600" height="194" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-IM9i1_LYh4s/XgxcCDJpzHI/AAAAAAAAHU4/Wevq8bKtr5cJme7NIq5KOTYXILLJeCjpQCNcBGAsYHQ/s640/DarkEmerald-Colours.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
And finally, here you can see how very non-reactive this colour is. You'll notice there's a weird, dark sooty line between the Ivory and Peace, but I think that is nothing to do with Dark Emerald and quite a lot to do with me needing to clean my torch head. Also, there was a batch of Peace that did this fairly easily a few years back, and it's possible that I still have a few rods of it mixed in with my newer stock.<br />
<br />
And here are some fun beads with Dark Emerald. On the whole, I think this colour is a bit brighter than I really like to work with. If I am going to use the rest of my stock, I think I will probably mix it with other transparent colours to see what I can do with it in blends.<br />

CiM <a href="https://www.creationismessy.com/color.aspx?id=482">Peacock Feather</a> (CiM576) and <a href="https://www.creationismessy.com/color.aspx?id=483">Surf's Up</a> (CiM575) are Opal and Misty Opal versions of a gorgeous turquoise colour. They have interesting reactions with other colours, and seem like a good base for silver glass. I made these beads with Peacock Feather, but I expect the reactions for Surf's Up would be quite similar.<br />
<br />

The spacer on the right is not really darker, it is just smaller and is letting through more of the dark grey base I take my photos on. Reducing Peacock Feather doesn't change its colour.<br />

Silver gets all beaded and crusty on top of Peacock Feather. When the silver is reduced and encased, it forms a mottled silvery blanket under the clear with hints of blue haze.<br />

<br />
<a href="https://creationismessy.com/color.aspx?id=354">CiM Slate</a> (CiM538) is a light, greyish blue transparent colour. Its darkness changes dramatically when it is used in thick layers, and it can bubble when applied using very thin stringer, so you need to watch your heat with this colour.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Slate does not change when you reduce it.<br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Nothing much happened in these first two beads, but you can see that I got some lovely blue cloudiness in the bead where I used Slate as the base colour, applied silver leaf, reduced it, and then encased it with more Slate.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-vwDeFs24J9Q/Xju2J6FS3YI/AAAAAAAAHZM/xkVrH1Z5m3ADZRc80Pae-Tn-fVor5ZLfgCEwYBhgL/s1600/BlueSlate-SilverGlass.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="553" data-original-width="875" height="201" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-vwDeFs24J9Q/Xju2J6FS3YI/AAAAAAAAHZM/xkVrH1Z5m3ADZRc80Pae-Tn-fVor5ZLfgCEwYBhgL/s320/BlueSlate-SilverGlass.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Slate makes a surprisingly good base colour for silver glass. My reducing silver glass bloomed on top of it, and I got a very nice starting strike from my TerraNova2 frit.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ARfiiHzLqPk/Xju2J-6pfNI/AAAAAAAAHZI/yCGhJFoLv8MJkfR6JYHOsa3FVZHb_K2bQCEwYBhgL/s1600/BlueSlate-Colours.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="455" data-original-width="1600" height="180" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ARfiiHzLqPk/Xju2J-6pfNI/AAAAAAAAHZI/yCGhJFoLv8MJkfR6JYHOsa3FVZHb_K2bQCEwYBhgL/s640/BlueSlate-Colours.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
On top of this colour, Copper Green looks very dark and dull, and it separates although you can only see that around the very edges of the dots and stringer lines.<br />
<br />
In the bead on the right, you can see that I got some sooty lines in Slate as I melted my stringer down. I think this means that I need to clean my torch, not that this colour is especially sensitive, but you may want to test that yourself before embarking on a whole run of beads that use this colour as stringer decoration.<br />
<br />
Here are some fun beads that include Slate.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-AgjbavZIK0I/XPtkOgfpZnI/AAAAAAAAHIo/runrlYQJQtItOlA8AVxc1MyPt-2UiLHAACLcBGAs/s1600/lightgrey-testbeads.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="650" data-original-width="900" height="462" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-AgjbavZIK0I/XPtkOgfpZnI/AAAAAAAAHIo/runrlYQJQtItOlA8AVxc1MyPt-2UiLHAACLcBGAs/s640/lightgrey-testbeads.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Effetre Light Gray (EFF248) is an elephantine opaque colour. It is somewhat reactive with Ivory, fairly inert with other colours, and makes an interesting base colour for silver and silver glass.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-uz5pTkbnHy0/XPtkNykIGRI/AAAAAAAAHIY/OboPpSQF9-c52eDD6qq9onyiAZU65VQGACEwYBhgL/s1600/lightgrey-plain.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="312" data-original-width="408" height="152" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-uz5pTkbnHy0/XPtkNykIGRI/AAAAAAAAHIY/OboPpSQF9-c52eDD6qq9onyiAZU65VQGACEwYBhgL/s200/lightgrey-plain.jpg" width="200" /></a></div>
<br />
When you reduce it, Light Grey 'browns up' a little.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-j2B8dhP0rtk/XPtkNz2mB-I/AAAAAAAAHIc/_j8u3aThODI-KjfeKHbQM_oNLCUfnja8QCEwYBhgL/s1600/lightgrey-silver.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="432" data-original-width="896" height="154" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-j2B8dhP0rtk/XPtkNz2mB-I/AAAAAAAAHIc/_j8u3aThODI-KjfeKHbQM_oNLCUfnja8QCEwYBhgL/s320/lightgrey-silver.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Silver on top of Light Grey turns yellowish and pinkish. When the silver is reduced and encased, it loses this interesting colour.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-OniDXt2pLkY/XPtkOSLwqxI/AAAAAAAAHIk/vC_J1iomMt42pJO4gQBqIxyLqb4ha0PiACEwYBhgL/s1600/lightgrey-silverglass.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="432" data-original-width="1000" height="138" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-OniDXt2pLkY/XPtkOSLwqxI/AAAAAAAAHIk/vC_J1iomMt42pJO4gQBqIxyLqb4ha0PiACEwYBhgL/s320/lightgrey-silverglass.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Reducing silver glass spreads and develops a nice sheen on top of Light Gray. I got a decent starting strike from my TerraNova2 on top of this colour, and like the pale halos that I can see around the TerraNova2 fritty bits.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-BlxchC39d7E/XPtkOIx4r8I/AAAAAAAAHIg/GbFSIBWrHVofEIrv1AWj93GPd6gq4T1iwCEwYBhgL/s1600/lightgrey-colours.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="426" data-original-width="1600" height="170" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-BlxchC39d7E/XPtkOIx4r8I/AAAAAAAAHIg/GbFSIBWrHVofEIrv1AWj93GPd6gq4T1iwCEwYBhgL/s640/lightgrey-colours.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Light Gray separates a little on top of Tuxedo.<br />
<br />
Ivory and Light Gray develop a reciprocal dark line reaction. In the case where the Ivory is on top, the result is a dark line that almost looks like a shadow. When the Light Gray is on top, the reaction is crackly and intermittent, giving the stringer lines and dots a translucent, jagged appearance.<br />
<br />

<br />
Sunset is a striking colour and will get darker with repeated heating and cooling, but a simple waft through a reduction flame didn't change its colour.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Z3eRY3GZDfI/XBnnE4ae0NI/AAAAAAAAGvY/GOjv4DoEx2Y18K_eAmpnlbcc8KV76IixACEwYBhgL/s1600/Sunset_Silver.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="404" data-original-width="872" height="148" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Z3eRY3GZDfI/XBnnE4ae0NI/AAAAAAAAGvY/GOjv4DoEx2Y18K_eAmpnlbcc8KV76IixACEwYBhgL/s320/Sunset_Silver.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Silver crusts up and gets yellowish on top of Sunset. When the silver is reduced and encased it turns blue in places.<br />
<br />

<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-lSQt2D52w80/XBnnFAHAWTI/AAAAAAAAGvg/q25YzHxGibAwTdMHUr4boULkWrwm9d-ywCEwYBhgL/s1600/Sunset_SilverGlass.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="392" data-original-width="840" height="149" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-lSQt2D52w80/XBnnFAHAWTI/AAAAAAAAGvg/q25YzHxGibAwTdMHUr4boULkWrwm9d-ywCEwYBhgL/s320/Sunset_SilverGlass.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Silver Glass reacts with Sunset in a dark-line way. I got a beautiful starting strike on my TerraNova2 frit on top of this colour.<br />
<br />

<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Kq89T1nZtHU/XBnnE4ZuA8I/AAAAAAAAGvc/ZujbosYbZ_EdlcPSSfkeJmlscl7wLf_2QCEwYBhgL/s1600/Sunset_Colours.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="486" data-original-width="1600" height="194" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Kq89T1nZtHU/XBnnE4ZuA8I/AAAAAAAAGvc/ZujbosYbZ_EdlcPSSfkeJmlscl7wLf_2QCEwYBhgL/s640/Sunset_Colours.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
While Sunset is only a moderately reactive colour, there are some interesting things going on in these test beads.<br />
<br />
While nothing of note happens when Tuxedo is used over Sunset, Sunset separates on top of Tuxedo.<br />
<br />
Copper Green separates and develops a subtle dark line around it when it is used on top of Sunset. When the Sunset is on top, the exact opposite is true and it is the Sunset that separates and the dark line is subtle but wide.<br />
<br />
Opal Yellow and Ivory both separate on top of Sunset. When the Sunset is on top, it is the separator. In both cases, the sunset edges get 'eaten' by the base colour. The reaction in both cases is more pronounced with Ivory than it is with Opal Yellow.<br />
<br />
These beads all contain some Sunset.<br />

<a href="https://creationismessy.com/color.aspx?id=329" target="_blank">CiM Loch Ness (CiM432)</a> is a very dark green moonstone colour, although to me it just seems like a very dark transparent since it is quite difficult to see through, even when used in thin layers. It's a very well-behaved colour, buttery and easy to control except that it gets a lot easier to boil it when applying it in thin layers with stringer. Work cooler and higher up in your flame to avoid this problem.<br />

Loch Ness does not change colour when you reduce it, and looks pretty much black when used in self-coloured spacers.<br />

Silver dissolves in a fun way on top of Loch Ness, looking almost like a starscape or galaxy. When the silver is reduced and encased, it opacifies on top of the Loch Ness and develops hints of blue here and there.<br />

This colour has potential as a good base colour for silver glass. Both my reducing silver glass and my striking silver glass got great colour on top of it.<br />

<br />Copper Green separates with Loch Ness, but apart from that it is not a terribly reactive colour. This reaction happens with Light Turquoise as well, so I suspect it will happen with most turquoise opaque glasses.<br />
<br />
This colour does not react with Ivory, and it is always good to find greens and blues where that is true.<br />
<br />
<br />
These beads all contain some Loch Ness:<br />

<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-wMoq5rfgfXw/XKWDvsArroI/AAAAAAAAG-Y/AQpjip7GevIEDHUnVxnOQp8WVBScoS8oACLcBGAs/s1600/paleamethyst-testbeads.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="617" data-original-width="900" height="438" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-wMoq5rfgfXw/XKWDvsArroI/AAAAAAAAG-Y/AQpjip7GevIEDHUnVxnOQp8WVBScoS8oACLcBGAs/s640/paleamethyst-testbeads.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Effetre Pale Purple (EFF046), also called Pale Amethyst, is a very pale purple transparent colour. It is not very reactive with silver or other colours, and is reasonably well-behaved in the flame, resisting my "expert" attempts at boiling it.<br />
<br />
Overall, I quite like this colour. I don't use a lot of pale transparents in the beads I typically make, but I like having one in each hue group that I can call on reliably when I need one.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/--d2zRC_bTnU/XKWDu5KNu8I/AAAAAAAAG-Q/wgbxHTG192sc3jLOkBCYDTngs79JYCrigCEwYBhgL/s1600/paleamethyst-plain.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="274" data-original-width="397" height="137" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/--d2zRC_bTnU/XKWDu5KNu8I/AAAAAAAAG-Q/wgbxHTG192sc3jLOkBCYDTngs79JYCrigCEwYBhgL/s200/paleamethyst-plain.jpg" width="200" /></a></div>
<br />
Pale Amethyst doesn't change colour when you reduce it.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Qx33KmezO8w/XKWDu4h04RI/AAAAAAAAG-M/3vSWoz4ScAUBKVAFPDgSodYQYUsbyOxhACEwYBhgL/s1600/paleamethyst-silver.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="428" data-original-width="1386" height="122" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Qx33KmezO8w/XKWDu4h04RI/AAAAAAAAG-M/3vSWoz4ScAUBKVAFPDgSodYQYUsbyOxhACEwYBhgL/s400/paleamethyst-silver.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Here you can see that silver stays silver under Peal Amethyst. When silver is reduced and encased on top of Pale Amethyst, it develops a bluish haze.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-UTWa-8xwbGo/XKWDvdeEeqI/AAAAAAAAG-U/Jm48KgGfmKQpsdSsdvS5Lm7SK_vLJtPUwCEwYBhgL/s1600/paleamethyst-silverglass.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="438" data-original-width="914" height="153" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-UTWa-8xwbGo/XKWDvdeEeqI/AAAAAAAAG-U/Jm48KgGfmKQpsdSsdvS5Lm7SK_vLJtPUwCEwYBhgL/s320/paleamethyst-silverglass.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Pale Amethyst is a decent base colour for silver glass, but it doesn't cause any magic to happen. in the striking silver glass frit. I quite like the way the reduction frit looks.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-YgxCrNLnJE0/XKWDuzO5A8I/AAAAAAAAG-I/pNmJHYQ0wWwl4J8kyGyYjECdMDul3bREwCEwYBhgL/s1600/paleamethyst-colours.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="441" data-original-width="1600" height="176" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-YgxCrNLnJE0/XKWDuzO5A8I/AAAAAAAAG-I/pNmJHYQ0wWwl4J8kyGyYjECdMDul3bREwCEwYBhgL/s640/paleamethyst-colours.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
On top of Pale Amethyst, Copper Green separates and Ivory spreads and looks 'floaty'. Ivory and Peace both spread like mad on top of it, but Opal Yellow stays crisp and thin. Other than those observations, there's not much more to see here. Pale Amethyst is not very reactive.Melanie Grahamhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16119369707291699057noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2378147167962396513.post-28500221801083595542020-05-31T22:00:00.000-07:002020-07-01T22:36:49.314-07:00Test Results :: Summer Haze / Lemongrass<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

They work up a gorgeous, smokey lemon yellow. The glass in these test beads is Summer Haxe, but there are beads with both Lemongrass and Summer Haze towards the end of this post. Because these colours are essentially the same formula according to CiM, I only did the colour test with one of them but I am sure that there are some subtle differences.</div>

<br />
Reducing Summer Haze didn't really alter its colour. It might have gotten a bit darker, but I also need to remember that it is a smaller bead on a dark background, which probably explains the colour difference in the two beads above all by itself.<br />

<br />
Silver develops a slight 'mistiness' on top of Summer Haze, and when the silver is reduced and encased it shows some areas with blue halos under the encasement layer When you use Summer Haze over silver foil, the foil turns bright gold. This means that Summer Haze has interesting potential as a base colour for silver glass frit stringer.<br />

<br />
Summer Haze is an unusually good base colour for silver glass. My reducing silver glass and striking silver glass both really bloomed on top of it.<br />

<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-SfFh17s-CPI/XKWEa11tHFI/AAAAAAAAG_g/S40R6fX6adQ5hye4Cp0HNK1o_q3jNU8hgCLcBGAs/s1600/troi-testbeads.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="675" data-original-width="900" height="480" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-SfFh17s-CPI/XKWEa11tHFI/AAAAAAAAG_g/S40R6fX6adQ5hye4Cp0HNK1o_q3jNU8hgCLcBGAs/s640/troi-testbeads.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<a href="https://www.creationismessy.com/color.aspx?id=435" target="_blank">CiM Troi</a> (CiM558) is a vibrant medium teal opaque. It reminds me of Mermaid, only a bit lighter and bluer.<br />
<br />
I was a little unprepared for how vibrant it would be, because the rod colour is a little more subdued than this colour ends up being after working and annealing it. It's quite a streaky colour, leaving little trails and veins of darker teal all through it no matter how carefully you work.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-mR4pVe5mJKM/XKWEZp5u5jI/AAAAAAAAG_M/sthhnWzZJzsGOA52MRbtgHtcXC3DhlR_gCEwYBhgL/s1600/troi-plain.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="285" data-original-width="394" height="144" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-mR4pVe5mJKM/XKWEZp5u5jI/AAAAAAAAG_M/sthhnWzZJzsGOA52MRbtgHtcXC3DhlR_gCEwYBhgL/s200/troi-plain.jpg" width="200" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Like many other colours in the turquoise/teal families, you can get a brick red reduction on Troi. You sort of have to work at it, though, and the result I got was blotchy. I tried a variety of strengths of reduction flame, and a variety of flame-height positions while reducing this and was not able to achieve an even coverage. Maybe you'll have better luck?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-M1H1Vo8dIC0/XKWEZmB-oEI/AAAAAAAAG_U/Rfsj0n_HXr0ah53FXZeVk9nCxc-OZ89AgCEwYBhgL/s1600/troi-quetzal-comparison.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="899" data-original-width="1600" height="179" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-M1H1Vo8dIC0/XKWEZmB-oEI/AAAAAAAAG_U/Rfsj0n_HXr0ah53FXZeVk9nCxc-OZ89AgCEwYBhgL/s320/troi-quetzal-comparison.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The reason Troi's vibrance surprised me so much is that in rod form, Troi is almost exactly the same colour as Quetzal. However, after working Troi gets darker, and Quetzal must get a bit bluer because they are nothing alike after coming out of the kiln.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-r2G3YXb7eZU/XKWEZ9ovhKI/AAAAAAAAG_Y/JMlrsxyIN7EvKvh7po4oYvrgYyrpsX-OACEwYBhgL/s1600/troi-silver.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="473" data-original-width="999" height="151" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-r2G3YXb7eZU/XKWEZ9ovhKI/AAAAAAAAG_Y/JMlrsxyIN7EvKvh7po4oYvrgYyrpsX-OACEwYBhgL/s320/troi-silver.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Troi reacts predictably with silver. Silver leaf only seems to turn this odd shade of mustard when it is reduced and encased on teal glass. I really like how the silver leaf coalesced in the veins where the Troi separated from itself in the leftmost bead.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-xStrtELP4tY/XKWEacwMk-I/AAAAAAAAG_c/-3puAxVo0iEvrUawO-3gn3aVUZdjF71mACEwYBhgL/s1600/troi-silverglass.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="466" data-original-width="1054" height="141" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-xStrtELP4tY/XKWEacwMk-I/AAAAAAAAG_c/-3puAxVo0iEvrUawO-3gn3aVUZdjF71mACEwYBhgL/s320/troi-silverglass.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
My striking silver glass frit in the bead on the right developed some interesting colour.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-CTtY3dYEH6o/XKWEZu37OiI/AAAAAAAAG_Q/_iceWN5ysRkeZXCxq084Wa0Vlgmc2YeeACEwYBhgL/s1600/troi-colours.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="444" data-original-width="1600" height="177" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-CTtY3dYEH6o/XKWEZu37OiI/AAAAAAAAG_Q/_iceWN5ysRkeZXCxq084Wa0Vlgmc2YeeACEwYBhgL/s640/troi-colours.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
On top of Troi, Copper Green and Opal Yellow both separate.<br />
<br />
Ivory and Troi develop a reciprocal dark line reaction, and the reaction is so strong that it discolours the stringer line's interior as well as its edges. When Troi is on top of Ivory, the brown line creeps into the Ivory in varying amounts.<br />
<br />
Troi separates on top of everything because it's so streaky.<br />
<br />
<br />
Here are some other beads that contain Troi:<br />

<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Id_dq0e2MAs/XqMYkk5TdiI/AAAAAAAAHg8/qc0iGD7ePc8PYJKt6_svd-1mMks1tAzZACNcBGAsYHQ/s1600/blackmarble-testbeads.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="700" data-original-width="900" height="496" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Id_dq0e2MAs/XqMYkk5TdiI/AAAAAAAAHg8/qc0iGD7ePc8PYJKt6_svd-1mMks1tAzZACNcBGAsYHQ/s640/blackmarble-testbeads.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Effetre Black Marble (EFF774) is a streaky, dark brown-black colour that has the same consistency as Effetre Dark Ivory. Also like Dark Ivory, it does a crazy reticulation thing that looks like little cells of different shades of brown and ivory in between veins of darker colour. It's in this glass' reactions to other colours where some big differences lie.<br />
<br />
On a bit of a side note, this colour does not look like marble, and it is also not really black. It's more of a 'rich farmland soil' kind of dark, streaky brown.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-hdAe-3TitgI/XqMYjT1XgiI/AAAAAAAAHgo/QuOUv4Q1m6MXlKDcV59AXotY2BxXvLRVwCEwYBhgL/s1600/blackmarble-plain.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="325" data-original-width="381" height="170" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-hdAe-3TitgI/XqMYjT1XgiI/AAAAAAAAHgo/QuOUv4Q1m6MXlKDcV59AXotY2BxXvLRVwCEwYBhgL/s200/blackmarble-plain.jpg" width="200" /></a></div>
<br />
Black Marble doesn't really change much when it is reduced. It's possible that the bead on the right got a bit darker, but it's hard to be sure since this colour has so much variation anyway.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Qk1fAsSIus0/XqMYkXIZGUI/AAAAAAAAHg4/qJn2-KZJuDELUB4AIJWvx1j2U4mZ79Y9wCEwYBhgL/s1600/blackmarble-stringeronclear.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="360" data-original-width="549" height="209" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Qk1fAsSIus0/XqMYkXIZGUI/AAAAAAAAHg4/qJn2-KZJuDELUB4AIJWvx1j2U4mZ79Y9wCEwYBhgL/s320/blackmarble-stringeronclear.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Here I did Black Marble as stringer (wrapped about three times) on the left side of the bead and then the same amount of Silvered Black Marble on the right side. The silvered stringer is darker overall (my best guess is that the silver reacted with whatever ivory-like glass forms the lighter streaks?) and has tiny flecks of silver in it that make me happy. I made the Silvered Black Marble the same way I make Silvered Dark Ivory.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-uSR9edF6aSg/XqMYjaxRwVI/AAAAAAAAHgs/HVrhsCsW96oPW3XhWWjYsMQzvK0VZ0czQCEwYBhgL/s1600/blackmarble-silver.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="508" data-original-width="696" height="233" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-uSR9edF6aSg/XqMYjaxRwVI/AAAAAAAAHgs/HVrhsCsW96oPW3XhWWjYsMQzvK0VZ0czQCEwYBhgL/s320/blackmarble-silver.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I sort of expected this colour to behave the same way with silver as light and dark ivory glasses do, but I was wrong. The silver leaf on the surface of this colour is a more interesting light golden hue. When I reduced and encased the silver, the golden-ness went away and it blushed blue in places which I have not had it do with ivory glasses.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_cxxOGD1xNE/XqMYkMPw5hI/AAAAAAAAHg0/hpdtcw8GA2MpLX8D589K7bFoPF_N23LlQCEwYBhgL/s1600/blackmarble-silverglass.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="480" data-original-width="708" height="216" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_cxxOGD1xNE/XqMYkMPw5hI/AAAAAAAAHg0/hpdtcw8GA2MpLX8D589K7bFoPF_N23LlQCEwYBhgL/s320/blackmarble-silverglass.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Silver glass is very beautiful on top of Black Marble, which seems to make a decent base colour for both reducing and striking colors.<br />

<br />
Black Marble has a much milder version of the same reaction profile as Ivory - which is to say that it does a gentle dark line reaction with Copper Green, and it is also gently reactive with Opal Yellow. Because both colours are spready, you can see where Ivory and Black Marble were used together that there is some interesting bleed at the edges of the stringer dots and lines.<br />
<br />
My most important takeaway from these beads is that Black Marble is really awesome as stringer.<br />
<br />
Here are some other beads that include Black Marble:<br />

This week I have been focused on using some of the new transparents and the new lapis-hued semi-opaque colour called Blueberry Muffin. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="https://creationismessy.com/color.aspx?id=454" target="_blank">Candlelight (CiM322) </a>is a very pale yellow transparent colour. It comes out very true to the colour of the rod, although while you are working it it blushes a deep yellow. I wasn't exactly sure what I was going to get when they went into the kiln and was thrilled when they came out such a unique and useful colour..</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This colour works beautifully without any bubbling or scumming or fuss. I found the melted ends liked to crack off when reintroducing them to the flame, but that happens with many of the transparent colours from all the manufacturers.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/--mEth15PeyY/XqMfdka1R-I/AAAAAAAAHkU/KKEENGri5p0JpWYp7DonapWMSx9AzLOZACNcBGAsYHQ/s1600/compare_strawyellow_candlelight.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="750" data-original-width="1170" height="256" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/--mEth15PeyY/XqMfdka1R-I/AAAAAAAAHkU/KKEENGri5p0JpWYp7DonapWMSx9AzLOZACNcBGAsYHQ/s400/compare_strawyellow_candlelight.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Here you can see that Candlelight is substantially paler than Effetre Straw Yellow. I am excited about this colour and want more of it, because it has so much potential for fun.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-H48JaavMLqQ/XqMdSQVU5JI/AAAAAAAAHjs/-SrYXLiWMsc4nkDOuXmIBoQXda9wIcwZgCNcBGAsYHQ/s1600/candlelight-silver.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1000" data-original-width="1000" height="200" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-H48JaavMLqQ/XqMdSQVU5JI/AAAAAAAAHjs/-SrYXLiWMsc4nkDOuXmIBoQXda9wIcwZgCNcBGAsYHQ/s200/candlelight-silver.jpg" width="200" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
One of the tests that I like to do with pale and medium transparents is to see what happens to silver foil when I use them to encase the foil. When I do this test, this is exactly the reaction that I am hoping to find - check out how golden and beautiful the silver foil went under Candlelight. This means that Candlelight will also make wicked silver glass frit stringer. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Other colours that do this to silver foil include Effetre Straw Yellow, Effetre Light Brown Transparent, Effetre Pale Green Apple, Effetre Kelp, and CiM Mojito. I am sure I am forgetting some in that list, and there are colours I have not tested yet, so that list is not definitive.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
These beads all contain Candlelight:</div>

<br />
<a href="https://creationismessy.com/color.aspx?id=450" target="_blank">Goldfish (CiM218)</a> is a slow-to-strike transparent orange that, when fully struck, is pretty much identical to Clockwork. I found this colour slow to develop in the flame, so if you want the deep, bright orange that it can become, you will want to use it in larger or more complex beads that have longer working time so that the beautiful colour has time to develop. I would not say that this colour is difficult to strike, but it does take some time and patience. Like Candlelight, Goldfish is a transparent colour without bubbliness, scumminess or other workability problems. Like Clockwork, this orange opacifies as it strikes, and looks very opaque in thick layers when fully struck.<br />
<br />
Understruck Goldfish ranges from yellow to golden orange, and I sort of appreciate the variation you can get from it. All of the other oranges that I've used (pictured below) develop colour much more readily, which can be nice but does not offer the flexibility that Goldfish does, where you can strike it as much or as little as you want to get different shades of orange.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-RQc61a3pVzk/XqMaMBpxekI/AAAAAAAAHiU/q_PFaYJvN8MmuwcbnbZHiZp9Vv7whdOMQCNcBGAsYHQ/s1600/goldfish-oranges-compare.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="868" data-original-width="961" height="288" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-RQc61a3pVzk/XqMaMBpxekI/AAAAAAAAHiU/q_PFaYJvN8MmuwcbnbZHiZp9Vv7whdOMQCNcBGAsYHQ/s320/goldfish-oranges-compare.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Here you can see Goldfish with Effetre Orange, Vetrofond Orange, and Clockwork. The three other oranges all strike much more quickly than Goldfish.I like all of these colours for different reasons, and isn't it nice that they are so different from each other and differently useful that we can totally excuse owning all of them?<br />
<br />
These beads all contain Goldfish. As you can see, I was much more successful striking it in these 'real' beads than I was in the test cylinder above because the working time was substantially longer and the beads all had more heating/cooling cycles as I decorated them.<br />

<a href="https://creationismessy.com/color.aspx?id=449" target="_blank">Firedragon (CiM124)</a> is a beautiful orange-red transparent, a few shades warmer and lighter than Sangre. I found this colour equally nice to use as I did Candlelight and Goldfish. It fills a bit of a gap in my palette, since there really are no other transparent colours that I know of that are on the cusp of orange and red the way this one is.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="https://creationismessy.com/color.aspx?id=466" target="_blank">Blueberry Muffin (CiM633)</a> is supposed to be the same hue as CiM Lapis. It seems lighter in most of my beads because I have used it in thin layers over light colours. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This colour is pleasantly reactive, and I absolutely think that CiM should keep making it. It's like a deep, dense ink blue with fun reactive potential and I am very excited about all the crazy things we will do together. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
If I could change anything about this colour it would be to make it more translucent. Even in thin layers, it can look almost opaque. I wonder what it would be like as a Misty Opal?</div>

That's all for this week! I am not sure what I'll post next because there are still so many delectable choices, but I will be back next week with more colour news.</div>

<br />
<a href="https://creationismessy.com/color.aspx?id=460" target="_blank">CiM Circus Tent (CiM220)</a> is a very interesting 'threaded transparent' colour where multiple long filiments of various colours are drawn thin inside a clear rod. The clear that CiM used for Circus Tent is much smoother, more buttery, and less prone to boiling than my previous experiences with CiM Clear would have led me to expect and I found it really nice to use.<br />
<br />
I am not sure I love the colour combination inside this particular colour, but I am very excited about possible future colours built using this technique, maybe inside clear, maybe inside misty opal colours with more appealing colour combinations. For instance, I would love something like this with more than one layer of oranges and yellows inside it to use as stamen cane, and I'd also really appreciate a pale aqua that contained filiments of various blues and teals.<br />

<br />
Reducing Circus Tent doesn't change its colour.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Silver is the same on top of Circus Tent as it is on top of Clear. Nothing very interesting happens, but the silver has nice visibility on the surface of it (leftmost bead).<br />

<br />
<br />
Reducing silver glass frit develops nicely on top of Circus Tent, making me want more of the clear glass that Circus Tent is made from.<br />

<br />
<br />
Circus Tent is not a reactive colour. The main thing I find interesting in these test beads is the way Ciircus Tent pulls into a very slightly streaky stringer.<br />

Here are some beads made with Circus Tent:<br />

Because the volume of colours this time is so big, I wanted to make sure that I at least posted some initial impressions and photos of them all but will do my detailed colour explorations only for those colours that I decide to incorporate into my palette more permanently. I made this decision after I had already dived in and done a bit of testing, so you will see some more detailed posts for a few colours right away, beginning next week.<br />
<br />
I haven't used all the colours yet, and this post will be focused on what I've been making with some of the new Cloudy Transparent colours. I really like this new rod format with the pigment filaments suspended in Clear, and I am hoping for a whole range of colours in the future. I think that a dark blue, a dark teal, and some bright oranges, pinks, and yellows would be particularly fun.<br />
<br />
In general, I have found the Cloudy Transparent colours to be a bit shocky. For for the most part, this was quite manageable and well worth the effort, at least for the colours I've tried so far. Heather is the one that I've had the most trouble with out of this group. Another thing common to all of these colours (so far) is that they can be easy to boil, so you really have to watch your heat. This is true not only with fine stringer, but also when applying the glass from the rod to your bead. Work higher up in the flame and a bit cooler to avoid this problem. I have not specifically tested any of these for colour reactions yet. When I do, I might find out something interesting, but so far they do not seem very reactive with other colours.<br />
<br />
These beads all contain <a href="https://creationismessy.com/color.aspx?id=451" target="_blank">Heather (CiM922)</a> or <a href="https://creationismessy.com/color.aspx?id=492" target="_blank">Luzern (CiM924)</a>. The only real difference between these glasses for me was that my rods of Luzern had more colour density. Heather and Luzern are a magenta/lilac-coloured streaky transparent where the pigment filaments are suspended in clear glass. Both of these colours are stunning, and I am hoping to get some more of at least one of them.<br />

<a href="https://creationismessy.com/color.aspx?id=461" target="_blank">Chocolate (CiM731) </a>is a gorgeous, deep, dark brown transparent colour. Out of all the new cloudy transparents, this one might be the one I am most excited about. Because it is a very dark colour, when used in thick layers this colour is a very opaque deep brown, but you can lighten it as much as you want by applying it in thinner layers on top of other colours. This offers quite a lot of flexibility when you're designing with it.</div>

And finally, this last bead is made with a colour that I don't think will be for sale (at least not this time around), doesn't have a name, and is a bright, royal blue cloudy transparent. In these beads, you can see both how the bright blue base looks almost opaque, and how the same colour in a thin layer in the bead's raised dot decoration looks streaky and wispy and almost transparent.</div>

<br />
Effetre Light Lemon Yellow is a beautiful, bright yellow opal. I call it an opal rather than a pastel/opaque, because it is transparent when pulled out into stringer and used in thin layers. It's a bit of a pain because it is quite boily, so you need to be careful not to work this colour too hot.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1MHlnyYzpFU/XPtjsjtAFlI/AAAAAAAAHHs/cmsNO4MOMiIZtyWYJqqkYDYHyf4etN5BQCEwYBhgL/s1600/lightlemonyellow-plain.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="288" data-original-width="372" height="154" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1MHlnyYzpFU/XPtjsjtAFlI/AAAAAAAAHHs/cmsNO4MOMiIZtyWYJqqkYDYHyf4etN5BQCEwYBhgL/s200/lightlemonyellow-plain.jpg" width="200" /></a></div>
<br />
Light Lemon Yellow does not change colour when you reduce it.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-oY3MGRzVsAA/XPtjsn7ZLRI/AAAAAAAAHH0/Lopod2u7oa4hxQmCzwHOiJWDI2Y8PQhKwCEwYBhgL/s1600/lightlemonyellow-silver.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="412" data-original-width="944" height="139" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-oY3MGRzVsAA/XPtjsn7ZLRI/AAAAAAAAHH0/Lopod2u7oa4hxQmCzwHOiJWDI2Y8PQhKwCEwYBhgL/s320/lightlemonyellow-silver.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Silver develops a greyish crust on top of Light Lemon Yellow with blue haze throughout it in places. When the silver is reduced and encased, it loses some (but not all) of this interesting colour. This is fairly consistent with other colours in the ivory/red/orange/yellow family that contain sulfur.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-86M9Cv1vXss/XPtjtGE9RHI/AAAAAAAAHH4/pX-v4GvMEgU5Ez60EoMOJe6-1xiAxv31QCEwYBhgL/s1600/lightlemonyellow-silverglass.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="436" data-original-width="1044" height="133" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-86M9Cv1vXss/XPtjtGE9RHI/AAAAAAAAHH4/pX-v4GvMEgU5Ez60EoMOJe6-1xiAxv31QCEwYBhgL/s320/lightlemonyellow-silverglass.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Light Lemon Yellow is a surprisingly good base for silver glass. The colour of it is not really that appealing with the silver glass colours, but I guess we can't have everything. These beads make me think of the Northern Pikes song 'Nice Legs, Shame About Her Face'.<br />
<br />

<br />
Light Lemon Yellow and Copper Green develop a reciprocal dark line reaction. Apart from that, this colour did not react strongly with any of my other standard test colours.<br />
<br />
This bead is Light Lemon Yellow swirled with my Firefly 104 CoE frit blend.<br />

<br />
<a href="https://doublehelixglassworks.com/product/oracle-746-pst/" target="_blank">Double Helix Oracle746.pst </a>is a very pale green opaque colour. It's very well-behaved, and I quite like it as a cooler base colour.<br />

<br />
Oracle746pst is quite reactive with silver. You can see in the leftmost bead that the silver all turned brown on top of it. Reducing and encasing the silver gets rid of the brown, instead making the silver silvery again under the clear in a gentle, mother-of-pearl way with hints of blue and pink.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-kwchy3RQYSk/XgxZ62upyOI/AAAAAAAAHTM/zNx3Z57AlREP2uU9llzqoXv7HB7s1zoJgCEwYBhgL/s1600/Oracle746pst-SilverGlass.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="455" data-original-width="792" height="183" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-kwchy3RQYSk/XgxZ62upyOI/AAAAAAAAHTM/zNx3Z57AlREP2uU9llzqoXv7HB7s1zoJgCEwYBhgL/s320/Oracle746pst-SilverGlass.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I was expecting, because of the strong reactions with silver, for this glass to foster colour in my striking silver glass a bit more, but I was wrong. My reduced silver glass frit fumed this colour a bright yellow.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_Sg2ITfd3NM/XgxZ6DYBhdI/AAAAAAAAHTI/azbF9BXYJgMQS7k8oB5yl-CIkYNtdqYZgCEwYBhgL/s1600/Oracle746pst-Colours.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="451" data-original-width="1600" height="180" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_Sg2ITfd3NM/XgxZ6DYBhdI/AAAAAAAAHTI/azbF9BXYJgMQS7k8oB5yl-CIkYNtdqYZgCEwYBhgL/s640/Oracle746pst-Colours.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I would not call this colour reactive with other colours, either. It is, however, prone to separate. You can see here how it has done that under Tuxedo and on top of basically everything. Ivory both spread like mad on top of it.<br />

<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-UvtlEqUcwAQ/Xju1IKIFJOI/AAAAAAAAHYY/s6MuR0xHl9Aj7D4jLYaaxi9LD22uGn6tACPcBGAYYCw/s1600/Skyberry-TestBeads.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="700" data-original-width="900" height="496" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-UvtlEqUcwAQ/Xju1IKIFJOI/AAAAAAAAHYY/s6MuR0xHl9Aj7D4jLYaaxi9LD22uGn6tACPcBGAYYCw/s640/Skyberry-TestBeads.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Effetre Skyberry (EFF768) is a light blue opaque colour that blushes turquoise. It's like what you'd expect to get if Light Sky Blue and Copper Green got together and had a love child.<br />
<br />
Like Copper Green, Skyberry develops a greyish sheen on its surface while it's being worked, although Skyberry's sheen tends more to the pinkish side, which is I guess where the whole 'berry' thing comes from. This sheen goes away when it is distracted by other surface reactions, like what you see in my colour tests with Tuxedo and Ivory.<br />
<br />
I went to check my findings for Light Sky Blue to see how this colour and that one are similar, only to realize in a surprised and slightly horrified way that I haven't tested that colour yet.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-tYqkRNALmio/Xju1HH1REEI/AAAAAAAAHYY/mkW9NnpswxUuRpxUzeEyP9RKVTZHdaGbwCPcBGAYYCw/s1600/Skyberry-Plain.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="384" data-original-width="494" height="155" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-tYqkRNALmio/Xju1HH1REEI/AAAAAAAAHYY/mkW9NnpswxUuRpxUzeEyP9RKVTZHdaGbwCPcBGAYYCw/s200/Skyberry-Plain.jpg" width="200" /></a></div>
<br />
In the bead on the left, you can see what Skyberry will do in a typical, same-coloured spacer. It's darker at the edges, and lighter in the middle, covered across the shoulders with a pale pinkish greyish sheen.<br />
<br />
When I reduced Skyberry in the bead on the right, it turned a dark brick red.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ZUlGX20la3Y/Xju1HGME91I/AAAAAAAAHYY/qWC17JX8f2s_AUMc_U7rkrOihZdBc41ZgCPcBGAYYCw/s1600/Skyberry-Silver.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="511" data-original-width="749" height="217" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ZUlGX20la3Y/Xju1HGME91I/AAAAAAAAHYY/qWC17JX8f2s_AUMc_U7rkrOihZdBc41ZgCPcBGAYYCw/s320/Skyberry-Silver.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Silver makes an interesting greyish-greenish patina on the surface of this colour, which mostly disappears when it is reduced and encased.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-NuDcfy48FNA/Xju1HhU0m8I/AAAAAAAAHYc/-h62qApudskinRP3Vaz2ejEuRf9QiU5ZQCPcBGAYYCw/s1600/Skyberry-SilverGlass.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="529" data-original-width="784" height="215" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-NuDcfy48FNA/Xju1HhU0m8I/AAAAAAAAHYc/-h62qApudskinRP3Vaz2ejEuRf9QiU5ZQCPcBGAYYCw/s320/Skyberry-SilverGlass.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Like most blues, this colour is a pretty boring base colour for silver glass. The reactions in both beads are interesting - you can see the Skyberry doing odd things around the edges of the frit in both cases - but it fails to make the colours pop, and I didn't find it a good base to strike my striking silver glass frit on.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-s0AHQStS5l8/Xju1HJNUBjI/AAAAAAAAHYU/qZbGR8t5rQ0hStbVOJfMlzrmAPmSRuiSQCPcBGAYYCw/s1600/Skyberry-Colours.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="440" data-original-width="1600" height="174" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-s0AHQStS5l8/Xju1HJNUBjI/AAAAAAAAHYU/qZbGR8t5rQ0hStbVOJfMlzrmAPmSRuiSQCPcBGAYYCw/s640/Skyberry-Colours.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Tuxedo separates Skyberry both when it is used on top of and underneath it, and Skyberry develops a dark line with Ivory in exactly the way you'd expect it to, as a close cousin of Copper Green. Skyberry also separates on top of Copper Green which I thought was interesting.<br />
<br />
In the bead on the left, if you look closely, you may notice that I accidentally used Opal Yellow twice instead of testing with Peace the way I meant to. Oops.<br />
<br />
Anyway, here are some fun beads with Skyberry. I still have about a half pound of this left, and plan to use it all before I move on to another palette. I am glad that Frantz still has more of this, as I'll want to put some aside for the next time I feel like working with a light blue.<br />
